Andrew has been a professional woodwind instrumentalist since 1989 when he joined the Royal Air Force and was awarded the Cassel prize from the Worshipful company of Musicians.

During his time in the RAF, he has held the chair of Principal Clarinet of the Central Band, and was the RAF’s Principal Saxophonist, as well as lead Alto with the famous RAF Squadronaires.

He has performed for Royalty at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and Windsor Castle, as well as 10 Downing Street and many more high profile state occasions.

As a soloist he has performed in the UK’s top venues, which include, The Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bridgwater Hall Manchester and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz club in London.

Over the years he has recorded albums in some of the world’s most prestigious recording studios, the most famous being, Abbey Rd and Air Studios London.

Andrew’s versatility in stylistic performance, brought him to the attention of the renowned composer, Paul Hart who wrote a piece especially for him entitled, Song Of the Truffle Maker which made its world premier at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2013.

Teacher

Andrew studied clarinet under the late Colin Courtney (Royal College of Music) and Saxophone under the renowned jazz saxophonist, Jo Fooks.

Since leaving the Royal Air Force in 2014, Andrew has successfully taught woodwind to students of all ages, gaining extremely high pass marks in both ABRSM and Trinity Jazz exam grades.

Andrew has also taught at Heathfield School in Ascot, and is currently the saxophone and clarinet teacher at the prestigious Epsom College in Surrey.

Available for private one to one tuition, as well as band and ensemble training in both classical and jazz styles.

The Andrew Hooley Trio is the perfect ensemble for any event or function where space or volume may be an issue. The instrumentation can be altered to suit the client or venue’s needs, and this versatile group are able play most genres of music including, jazz, swing and pop.

Andrew Hooley Quintet

Like the Trio, the Andrew Hooley Quintet is a versatile ensemble covering jazz, swing, Latin and pop. The difference between the Trio and Quintet is a larger rhythm section, or for the Sextet, an additional front line of Trumpet or Guitar, allowing for a fuller sound which is especially useful at larger events such as Dinners, Weddings and Ceremony Awards. The Quintet has performed at many prestigious Functions including, Frank Williams F1 Racing, Royal International Air Tattoo, Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street.

Andrew Hooley Septet

7even is the name of the Andrew Hooley Septet, an exceptional ensemble comprising of some of the UK’s finest Jazz instrumentalists. 7even draws on the sounds of Oliver Nelson’s Blues and The Abstract Truth album, as well as the cool sounds from the golden age of Blue Note. The band have performed at many jazz clubs and festivals across the UK, including the Love Supreme festival, supporting headline acts such as, Herbie Hancock, George Benson, The Jacksons and Gregory Porter.
